The Silent Hour is a collection of thematically dissimilitude poems. It records the entry of a novice into the world of pungent truths and dire calamities. It was written after the narrator came out of the sheltered environment of school life to sail for the first time into the turmoil of waves which the wider world inhibits. Here everything was to be decided and nothing was spoon fed. How the innocence of a child vanished when he came in close contact with the real realities of life. These poems were composed during the three years which the poet spent at Zakir Husain Delhi College Evening: though composed in English, yet the narrator seems to be at odds with the language itself; though composed in silence, yet his words are vociferous and revealing; though the works records personal experiences, yet they deal with public issues as well.
