On August 15, 1947, when Pandit Jawahar-lal Nehru unfurled the tricolour on top of the Red Fort in Delhi, it brought to a close India’s fight for freedom from British rule a struggle that had lasted for almost nine decades.
It was a battle that was fought on many fronts for it belonged to the poor and the rich, to the under privileged and the elite. It was fought with peace and also with aggression.
Amar Chitra Katha traces the Freedom Movement from its birth in the sufferings of an oppressed people, to its victory won by the courage, perseverance and sacrifice of patriots. A victory that gave us, as a legacy, a country unshackled and free to nur-ture and protect.
