The book has dealt both genetic disorders related to abnormal hemoglobin specially Sickle cell anaemia and G6PD enzyme deficiency and demographic variables prevalent among the Thoti tribe. The Thoti is a primitive tribal population inhabiting the Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh. This tribe was recognised as primitive tribal population by government of India in 1983. Their total population comprises of 3654 persons in Andhra Pradesh and 49.04% of them reside in the Adilabad district alone (1991 census). Being primitive and smaller in numbers this tribal population gives ample opportunities to study the interaction of demographic and genetic variables operating in this population. Studies have reported that the changes in fertility, mortality and age distribution, as well as childbearing age would directly affect the rate at which genetic or genetically related diseases are expressed in a population. Thus in the present book an attempt was made to define the deomogenetic pattern, with a view to relate their genetic diversity to their disease and demographic profile among this tribal population.
