Three men feel seedy in their rooms in London. They decide to get some fresh air, exercise, and quiet, going up the Thames on a boat. Each new chapter in their journey has comic surprises for them as well as for the reader. Three men, George, Harris and the author, feel seedy in their rooms in London and get quite nervous about it. They decide to get some fresh air, exercise, and quiet, going up the Thames on a boat. The fox terrier, Montmorency, reluctantly accompanies them. Nothing goes seriously wrong on the trip, but nothing goes very much right either.  All the four passengers are moody, temperamental, and accident-prone. Each new chapter in their journey has comic surprises for them as well as for the reader, so that when the four, overcome by incessant rain, decide to call it off at Pangbourne, two days short of the planned fortnight, and take the train to Paddington, it is the reader who feels cheated out of two more days of entertainment.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jerome K. Jerome

Jerome K Jerome (1859-1937), author of several successful plays and novels, is remembered best for 'Three Men in a Boat' (to say nothing of the Dog), first published in 1889. Soon after publication the sales of the English editions exceeded 1,50,000 copies, while in the United States, where the book was pirated, the sales exceeded a million copies. It was also translated into most of the European languages. It is so compellingly funny that once they have taken up the book, young and old find it difficult to put it down.
