SAARc constitutes the most contiguous region of the world as all the member countries are positioned within the periphery of the Indian Ocean. Except Srilanka and Maldives, all the member countries are land corridor countries, nevertheless, these two countries are also surfaced next to southern part of India. Therefore, trade within the region calls for an urgent colossal step as these countries are likely to derive maximum advantages from trading each other. The similarity in the language, cultural, religion and geograpical proximity engender alternatives of the nation. The economic reasons of trading were relegated to the background, now, at the moment the sovereignty of these nations can be remained unbroken desoite the possibilities of the profound trade.

Various analyses were excuted to measure the trade flows in the region like export-import matrix, trade intensity index, trade complementariticles index, Finger-Krennin Measure, trade biased index, revealed comparative index, in all the country studies concluded and recommended for the enhancement of trade opportunities in the region. To effectuate the trade cooperation, the heads of the heads of the states/governments of each SAARC member country endeavours to call summits on yearly basis but the turbulence in the region more often are working as a stumbling block for the expansion of the trade opportunities.

Dr. Masroor Ahmad Beg did M.com (Applied Economics), M.Phil, PhD (Delhi School of Economics) and M.B.A. He acquired prominence in the area of international business, Indian Economics and Islamic Banking during his 29 years teaching career at University of Delhi His active participation in the World Economics Congress in association with Indian Economics Association held at New Delhi in the year 1986 was his motivating force to remain in the academic domain.
