ABOUT THE AUTHOR Amos Owen Thomas

Amos Owen Thomas is Associate Professor of International Business at the Maastricht School of Management. For the last 16 years, he has taught at five universities and colleges in the Netherlands, Australia, Papua New Guinea and Singapore, while researching in the Asia-Pacific region. In 14 energetic years prior to joining academia, he worked as a copywriting manager at MNC advertising agencies, a fledgling consultant to SMEs, a minion in national government and a gopher with NGOs in refugee relief and community services. Delighted at being invited to, Dr Thomas has contributed chapters to edited works such as the Encyclopedia of the Developing World (2005), Toward the Common Good: Perspectives in International Public Relations (2004), Television in Contemporary Asia, and Marketing in the Third World. Much of his research has found its way into academic journals of varying pedigree including the Journal of Global Marketing, Gazette, Journal of International Communications, Global Business Review and Journal of Marketing Communications. Occasional articles have been written for policy/practitioner journals like Media development, Media Asia and Intermedia, reaching a wider audience. Being an internationalist, he has savoured stints as a visiting professor in France, Germany and Kazakhstan, plus at a score of campuses in Africa, South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East affiliated with the institutions he has worked for. His critique of international business usually engenders interest from graduate students, though not always. With a longer-term dream of inaugurating an informal network of Professors Beyond Borders, Amos Owen Thomas welcomes collaboration on teaching and research with particular relish if these should be on critical issues in developing, transitional and emerging economies.
