This present book entitled Tribal and Sustainable Development is the outcome of the research work in the field of sustainable development and bio-diversity conservation has been carried out among the selected tribal communities in the three different ecological setting (viz Hilly Zone, Chotanagpur, Platue Zone and Coastal Zone) in the State of West Bengal. The major issues like gradual depletion of our global resources over the last century in one hand and conservation of the available resources for future human interests on the other has been addressed in this book. The information gathered from the field has been interpreted in view of tackling the major issues to overcome the problems faced by the tribal communities has been reflected as a set of policy guidelines. In view of conceptual framework of ‘Sustainable Development’ in reality what is happening from the angle of sustainability has been discussed critically. No doubt the contents of the book will give such feedback to the policy makers and other implementing agencies who are involved themselves for carrying out.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Pradip K Bhowmick

Pradip K. Bhowmick (Born: 1955) who did his M.A. in Rural Development from I.I.T. Kharagpur in the year 1988. In the year 1998 he was awarded D. Litt. From Ranchi University. At present he is Assistant professor in the Rural Development Centre I.I.T. Kharagpur. Dr. Bhowmick published articles on Tribal and Rural Development issues in reputed journals and also author of the books namely Dynamics of Tribal Development (1993). Rural and Tribal Development Practices in India (1994), Level of tribal literacy in the state of West Bengal (2000), Ecology, Tribals and Rural Development: The case from West Bengal (2001). He is also co-author of the book namely Tribal Movement (1994), Land and Forest Twin Tribal Problems (1998). Author of several research papers Dr. Bhowmick has been interested in teaching, training and conducting researches among the rural and tribal communities.
