From the preface: Crop improvement in other word plant breeding is one of the basic and vital branch of plant science which mainly deals with creation and/or development of new genotypes (s) through different methods like introduction, selection including that of clones, hybridization, mutation and polyploidy as well as through biotechnological tools. Main Objective of improvement in any crop is either for introduction in new locality or further improvement of existing varieties. Improvement in fruit crops is somehow different from that in field crops due to its perennial nature. Besides heterozygosity in fruit crops makes it difficult to breed new types with specific requirement. Cultivation of fruit crops makes it difficult to breed new types with specific requirement. At the same time it can be successfully grown in poor, marginal and unutilized lands, where most of the field crops even many horticultural crops are failed to grow.
