Each chapter has several suggestions, games, and ideas to use when tutoring. In the chapter on reading, there is a section about young students who are reading but not remembering what they read. Included a game using different colored items which they see and then try to remember when the objects are hidden. The game gets progressively harder and reinforces the students’ retention. Playing bingo works in both reading and in math. In reading you just insert the words the kids need to learn and also put them on the flashcards; in math, write in the answers to the math problems you have written on cards. The kids know they are playing “learning†games, but they love it. there are suggestions for teaching SATs and ACTs )the college entrance exams) and even ideas for performing chemistry “labs†in a home. Some of the stories and work sheets are too long to put within a chapter so are printed in full in the Appendices section of this book. These ideas have worked successfully; feel free to use them.
