Following are the collection of 50 titles of Uncle Pai’s favourites: Krishna, our very first title, will always rank among my favourites because it was the beginning of the series. If it had not succeeded as well as it did, selling over a million copies, there would have been no Amar Chitra Katha series at all! I am proud of other titles that were intensively researched. It took almost two years to adapt the Gita, keeping the beauty and authenticity of the original intact. To my list, I must add the Amar Chitra Katha titles with men and women of integrity and bravery such as Ashoka, Akbar, Rani of Jhansi and Vivekananada: my personal heroes. We spent months sifting through historical records and consulted several scholars to ensure that their stories could be accurately told. After the detailed research that went into the mythological and historical titles, working on the Jataka Tales and the Panchatantra was a refreshing change of pace. These engaging stories were a pleasure to put together and I enjoy reading them even today. Any list that I make must also include titles featuring the extraordinary artworks of Pratap Mulick and Ram Waeerkar, who made characters such as Hanuman, Chanakya and Abhimanyu come alive. Ultimately, my selection is a very personal list of the stories that have cheered, inspired and entertained me. Through these stories, I can share the rich history, mythology and folklore of India with all of you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.
