The book unfolds the tragedy surrounding the lives of the mute and the teeming millions–the rural unorganized workers–and explores the possibilities and prospects for their empowerment. The supply-driven development policy without generating demand has proved to be a faulty approach, says the author. The book demonstrates powerful analytical approach of the author and his perceptions and experiences as one who played a pivotal role through his own interventions in different capacities; a rare blending of the two makes the book a valuable reference guide for researchers, planners, policy makers and all those who are socially concerned.
