The present book is an indepth study and analysis of the developments and complicated problems of urbanization in Orissa due to its rapid growth. Urban problems are, no doubt, common to all countries of the world. But in western countries, these problems have attracted wide attention and scrutinizing study. In India, there is no dearth of studies on local government, but these are partly sociological and partly economic. Moreover, these studies lack conceptual refinement and adequate tools for delineation of local leadership structure. This book is designed to know the statutory provisions governing the Chairman’s office, his relationship with the municipal functionaries. Since it is not possible in social science research to rely on any particular method, various methods have been resorted to for the preparation of this study which is spread over eight chapters. The present study is also directed to meet the need and requirements of those who are involved in the process of urban local administration. On the whole, the book will prove highly useful both to policy-makers as well as research-students in Social Science dealing with local government and politics.
