A National seminar was organized by Indian Association for Air Pollution Control (IAAPC) on 22nd March 2003 in Vadodara, to discuss Issues related to Urban Pollution and their Solution. Twenty four speakers presented their original research papers in two different sessions. Papers related to varied subjects like Aerodynamics of vehicles, Clean car standards, Eco-friendly lighting design, Assessment of pollutants on crops, Biological filtrationo f indoor air, An efficient method to detect the pollution load in indoor area, Pollution in city of Taj etc. were presented. Now is the age of developing Sustainable Cities, some 100 countries have developed their own National Environmental Action Plans. There is emphasis on maintaining the forest cover, produce green belts, parks and gardens in cities, making judicious use of available natural resources, adopt the technologies like rain water harvesting or use of wind energy for various purposes. Special attention is required so that flora and fauna is not lost. Present book deals with various solutions to such problems.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR A. Arya

Dr. Arun Arya got his basic training in Mycology and Plant Pathology from University of Allahabad under the guidance of Prof. Bihari Lal. He started his career as Lecturer in Microbiology in Gurukul Kangri University, Hardwar in 1985. Working at present as Reader in Botany, M.S. University of Baroda, Vadodara has a vast experience of teaching at graduate and post graduate levels. He has published 71 research papers dealing with Fungal taxonomy, physiology, pathology and biodeterioration. He is a popular science writer, and has also published a book on Tropical Fruits: Diseases and Pests. Recipient of Young Scientist award from DST, New Delhi. Dr. Arya has presented his findings at XV International Botanical Congress at Yokohama, Japan. He is Fellow of Indian Botanical Society and Indian Phyto-pathological Society.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.J. Bedi

S.J. Bedi, Ex. Professor and Head, Department of Botany, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, is a Senior Botanist with vast teaching and research experience of 31 years in the field of Plant Ecology and Systematic Botany. Published around 100 research papers in journals of national and international reputation. Presently, he is a consultant to various agencies for pollution control methodologies.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Y.T. Jasrai

Yogesh T. Jasrai, a fellow of Indian Botanical Society, has been teaching various aspects of plant science for over seventeen years in the Department of Botany, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. He was also conferred a prestigious Professor Hiralal Chakravarty Award in Botany (2001). He has to his credit more than 50 research papers in reputed journals and 3 books. Since 1999, Dr. Jasrai has been working as a Professor of Botany. He is also a Co-ordinator of B.Sc. Environmental Science Programme.
