The National Consultation on Value Education in Indian Schools: Experiences and Strategies of Implementation organised by NCERT at Jamia Hamdard University during 19-21 August, 2002 was a national level initiative to sensitise parents, teachers, teacher educators, educational administrators, policy makers and community agencies etc. for promotion of value oriented education. The specific objectives of the National Consultation on Value Education were: (a) to provide a forum for exchange of experiences about experimentations/innovations on value education in schools (b) to deliberate on issues related to school programmes on value education, interfaith communication, role of parents, teachers, media and literature in value education (c) to deliberate on strategies for mass awareness generation, material development, teacher training, promotion of research/innovations, strategies of networking/linkages and follow-up. This volume brings together the rich contributions made by a cross section of eminent thinkers, educationists and practitioners across the nation during the consultation. The volume is expected, to initiate further deliberations for promotion of value oriented education at school stage in the country.
