The volume consists of a number of selected papers written by Dr.(Mrs.) Alaka Buragohain Professor in Library and Information Science, Gauhati University and which have been published on different occasions in her long professional career. Each paper present an original response and reactions on the respective matters provoking attention of all concerned in library and

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Alka Buragohain
Dr. (Mrs.) Alaka Buragohain (Phukan), B. A. (with Honours in Education), M. A. (English), M. L. I. Sc. Ph. D. (Lib.& Information Science) is a professor in the Dept. Of Lib & Information Scienc., Gauhati University She is also a holder of certificates in 'Preliminary Course in German language' from Max-Mueller Bhavan, Poona and 'Computer Application in Library and information Activities' from INSDO, New Delhi. Dr. Buragohain is also the Director of NEC-sponsored Bibliographical and Documentation Project which is almost completing a Computer -readable Database on North-East India; besides she is the President of Assam College Librarian'sAssociation (ACLA), Vice President of Indian Library Association (ILA). Dr. Buragohain has been awarded the visitorship to United Kingdom by University Grants Commission during 1988-89 under Cultural Exchange Programme in Social Science and humanities. She has the distinction of establishing the Dept. of Lib. & Inf. Sc. in a sound footing, up-to-dating and modernising the courses and offering librarianship ad succeeding in placing the college librarians at par with teacher. Dr. Buragohanin has long working and teaching experience. Her contributions to the standard journals and collection volumes of all India repute has earned her a name. She has contributed in policy formulation at national, regional and local levels by her active participation in various seminars, workshops and conferences. to her credit, she has edited jointly with Dr. K. N. Baisya a collection volume entitled "Librarianship and Information Technology", which is a historical document of North Eastern librarianship. Her theses on "A study of Socio-Cultural Aspects of Library Support for Non-Formal Learning in Assam" submitted independently is being published by Shipra Publications, New Delhi. Recently Prof. (Mrs.) Buragohain is made a member of the RRRLF Sub-Committee under the Chairmanship of Prof. Sibnarayan Ray chairman of RRRLF (Raja Ram Mohum Roy Library Foundation) under the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of central Library in India and six best district libraries in six division of the country for the year 1999-2000.
