Set in a timeless frame, photographs of 'Vintage Madhya Pradesh' attempt to portray the region, today known as Madhya Pradesh, as it was from the late 19 century to the early 1960s. This compilation of photographs include not only the royal pageantry, pomp and dazzle, festivities and pastimes of shikar and polo, the grand and ostentatious palaces and monuments, the association of the royalty with the British during the days of the Raj that produced its own elaborate rituals and indulgences, but also some rare photographs of the common people, bazaars, streets and towns in general. Madhya Pradesh saw a number of significant movements during the freedom struggle in the 20 century, Jabalpur being a significant centre of protest against British imperialism. Photographs of the non-cooperation, civil disobedience, Quit India and other significant movements of our history have their own importance and in spite of the difficulty in obtaining such photographs, their inclusion acts as a nostalgic reminder of the sacrifices made by the people of this region for the freedom of the country. Photographs of the tribals and their life style, the post independence political and development scenario, the continuance of the cultural and musical traditions of Indore and Bhopal and various other memorable and rare moments of post independent Madhya Pradesh captured on camera have formed the final part of this book.
