Violence against women is burning topic of the day as instances of the continuation of this barbaric practice flow in from various parts of the world. Despite the massive progress in human activity and the development of human civilization to a level never attained in the past, violence against women in some form or other continues. Laws exist to prevent it and also lay down stringent punishment for the culprits. ‘Yet, most of them go scot-free and rarely are they punished. This book traces the treatment of women over the centuries and the treatment meted out to them by their male counterparts. It analyses the philosophy and the motivations behind such treatment and explains in vivid detail the sordid behaviour they are exposed to. Student, researchers and teachers of Sociology, Psychology and Women’[s Studies will find this book of immense value in the pursuit of their own work in these fields.
