Violence takes any forms and is understood differently in different countries and among different cultures. There are wars between nations for expansion of territory and for the control of natural resources. There are wars within nations. Violence is engineered by state against its citizens and instigated by religious denominations. There is violence perpetuated by the ideologies of racism, sexism, and classism. Violence knows no boundaries and is widely prevalent and pervasive in all spheres of life. It appears across class, caste, ethnicity and race, and across age, religion, culture, location, and profession. The present volume compiles different essays on diverse dimensions of violence. These essays elaborate upon many important theoretical and operational issues about violence in today’s world and bring out some ways and means to control and manage this social menace at all levels of an individuals’ life. Most of these essays are an outcome of the in-depth analysis done by the contributors in their respective socio-political situations. It is hoped that the book will serve as a reference guide for the researchers, planners, policymakers and all those who are concerned with issues relating to various dimensions of violence.
