This book has been compiled from the classes taken by Swami Dayananda Saraswati at Anaikatti and Rishikesh. One of the most popular forms of prayer is chanting the Vishnusahasranama. it is the praise of the Lord with thousand words. This hymn does not propound a theology according to the Swami: "It merely talks about what is already said in the Sruti, Smriti and the Puranas. It is pure Advaita Vedanta which says, ‘all that is here is only Isvara. ‘Each of these words is a name of Isvara and when understood, becomes a window through which you look at Isvara and understand Isvara with awe and wonderment." The text is divided into three sections. In the Ist and 3rd sections, the Purva and the Uttara bhaga respectively, each verse is given in Sanskrit and diacritical Roman together with the meaning in brief. In the Stotra section, in addition to the sloka the nama is given n Sanskrit and Diacritical Roman, together with the meaning in brief. This is followed by the relevant sentences from the commentary of Sankara and then the explanation by the Swami. The talks have been transcribed, edited and compiled in teh form of this book by Sunitha Santharan.
