Viveda Chintamani by Vachaspati Misra is a work of paramount authority on Hindu Law. The work was originally written in Sanskrit and hence most of the literate community was not to get its benefit. It was hon’ble P.C. Tagore who did great service by rendering accessible a work of so great authority to the English public in particular, and the Anglo-Indian literate in general. The learned translation was intended to supply the desideratum. The author of Vivada Chintamani, following the authority of Manu has divide his work into eighteen chapters several of which are subdivided into sections. Almost every subject connected with the dealings and transactions between man and man has been treated of in this work. The value of the work is too apparent to call for notice here. It holds a distinguished place among the Hindu law works and specially of Mithila School. The book’s value is further enhance by the detailed introductory preface, which provides a summed-up history of different schools of Hindu Law. It is hoped that all those interested in Hindu Law will find it very useful book.
