This book tries to assess the typology and extension of wastelands in Jaipur district of Rajasthan. It identifies various environmental and anthropogenic factors which may be responsible for the formation of different types of wastelands. Also, it suggests suitable remedies for the reclamation of each types of wasteland along with socially and economically appropriate technology for the wasteland development. The economics of wasteland reclamation/development through an input-output balance analysis has been assessed as well.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S C Kalwar
Prof. S.C. Kalwar, Professor and Ex-Head, Department of Geography, University of Rajastha, Jaipur, is a specialist in Agricultural Geography, Rural Development, Land Use Planning Applied Economic Geography and Surveying. Professor Kalwar has written/edited 13 books related to resources, wasteland, ecology, environment, poverty and socio-economic development and has so far participated in about 25 conferences/seminars/symposia of national and international levels, and has contrbibuted 50 research papers in various journals, supervised 32 Ph.D. scholars, more than 100 M.A./M.Sc./M.Phil. dissertations and conducted several research projects sponsored by U.G.C., I.C.S.S.R. and D.R.D.O., New Delhi. He is a member of Editorical Board of 'Studies in Geography', a research journal published by the Department of Geography, University of Rajasthan, and is the organiser of Refresher courses and other academic conferences/seminars. He is also an external member of "Board of studies" and Research Degree Committee of varius universities. Prof. Kalwar is a life member of National Association of Geographers of India, Rajasthan Geographers Association, Asian Environmental Council and Indian Institute of Geomorphology. He was also a member of National Committee, Government of India for selecting Hindi books for National Award (2002-2003).
