The present book is the result of the authors continued observation of the plants under cultivation and evaluation of their characters for about eight years.

The taxonomical monograph of the 16 Indian species and varieties of the Genus Nymphaea L. is presented here. Many of the binomials established by earlier workers have been reduced to synonyms after going back to the original publications; whereas, N. Malabarica Por., which the earlier workers had treated as a synonym to N. Nouchali Burm. f. is reinstated. Two new names viz. N. Nouchali var. Versicolor and N. Omrana var. rosea are proposed to replace the earlier taxonomic concepts. Both the native and cultivated plants occurring in the country as on date are included.

Contents: Foreword. Comments from Dr. K.S. Manilal. Preface. Acknowledgements. 1. Introduction. 2. Phylogeny. 3. Morphological considerations. 4. Presentation, materials and methods. 5. Cultivation. 6. Systematic treatment. 7. Discussion and conclusion. References. Index to scientific names.
