Since 1996, Government of India has issued guidelines for the implementation of area development programme adopting watershed approach. In the light of experience gained in implementing these programmes the guideline is revised by the government in 2001 and the latest one is Hariyali, 2003. Watershed approach aims at restoration of ecological balance, preserving environment and stabilizing income of the village community both farmers and the assetless and landless agricultural labourers. The area development programmes implemented adopting watershed by government, non-governmental organizations, line departments, academic institutions etc, are being monitored and evaluated by the administrators, academicians, researchers and NGOs. This book ‘Watershed Management: Principles, Parameters and Programmes’ furnishes details about the watershed approach, area development programmes besides, salient features of all three guidelines, indicators of watershed development and methodology for monitoring and evaluation of watershed development projects. This book is published in order to help the monitors and evaluators to know various details about watershed approach and also provides different qualitative and quantitative methodologies for monitoring and evaluation of watershed development project.
