While there is little doubt that environmental matters occupy an important place in present day public concern, historically this was not always the case. Some commentators have suggested that the historical roots of current environmental problems are to be found in the Judaeo-Christian tradition, which, of stewardship the basis of a new ethic of caring for nature.
