The book is a discussion on the contribution of women to change and development. Notable personalities like Kiran Bedi, Sonal Mansingh, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Naina Lal Kidwai, Swati Piramal, Manju Sharma and others narrate their personal journeys: how they overcame trials and tribulations and with courage and determination achieved success in their careers. Their experiences in different spheres of life reveal the importance of proper education, suitable training and independent thinking to bring about a change in the lives of women and the society. They throw light on the problems confronting the women of today and highlight issues relating to women’s empowerment and accessibility to health, education and jobs.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Motilal Dash
Dr. Motilal Dash is Assistant Professor, Humanistic Studies Group, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India. He has obtained his Ph.D. in Sociology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1994 with the specialization ‘Rural Development’. Since 1995, he has been involved in teaching, research and extension activities at BITS Pilani. He has extensively worked with the rural population and involved with important rural development projects funded by DFID-UK and ILO. He works ar the grass root level and presently carrying out projects in collaboration with Asha-for-Education, Yale Chapter, USA, and Association for India’s Development (AID-India), Maryland, USA. He has participated in a number of seminars/conferences in India and abroad and has convened seminars/conferences mainly on social issues. He has written a number of articles in various journals and has published books on ‘Grassroots Entrepreneurship’ and ‘Conflict Management’.
