"The dowry-related problems among South Asian women posits moral dilemmas of an extreme nature. The problems are immensely complex and complicated phenomena and that no quick-fix solutions can be offered. The most worrying aspects of dowry-related violence among South Asian women has been that problems have been on the increase and now occur no longer only in South Asia, but the world over. Rather than condemning South Asians as misguided, we ought to apply ourselves on how to curtail and avoid any abuse of dowry transactions, in particular when it results in violence against women. The dowry conferences create a sense of urgency and an obligation to do something about this problem that is atrocious in its ambit and implications. The book urges the full development of women’s personality, freedom and equal participation in the political, social, economic and cultural scenario. These are concomitants for development, social and family stability and growth–culturally, socially and economically."
