"This book provides a comprehensive analysis on the important problems of working women in the urban informal sector. An integrated picture of total women wrokforce and their economic contribution at family and societal level is provided. The determinants of work participation rate, income of women workers and their levels of living based on expenditure pattern, social background including living and learning pattern both at aggregate and disaggregate level are dealt with in this study. The study reveals that social background is an important indicator influencing economic participation of the respondents. Percapita income, backward caste social background and demographic characteristics appear to be significant determinants of participation rate. In regard to income determinants education inversely influences income. In view of these results the study aids in policy formulation on the unliftment of the urban poor in our country. It also helps the researchers and students on women Problems in Urban Informal Sector as it is an emerging area of Research in the Social Sciences."
