Women’s Political Participation: Researching the Past and Designing the Future

People’s participation is the backbone of any democracy. Barring a couple of countries of the world, women who constitute nearly half of the world population are grossly under-represented. Undoubtedly, it means half the national talents go waste or are hardly used in the process of social, political and economic modernization. Women’s question has been central to most thinkers but advocacy for equal participation has always existed in words. It is high time for action to ensure inclusive growth and polity.

This book is an endeavour to present a cross-section of opinions related to the need and imperatives towards enhancing women’s political participation. An attempt has also been made to peep into the history of political participation, and also as to how Indian and Western philosophers have viewed the necessity of women’s political participation. It also presents an analysis of constitutional and other legal provisions towards enhancing women’s political participation.
