The Vakyapadiya of Bhartrhari which represents an important landmark in the history of Indian Philosophy has always posed a challenge for scholars mainly because of its terse language. Bhartrhari’s terminology reflects, on the one hand, the development of the philosophical thinking of his forefathers, while on the other, it serves as a sourcebook of later development in philosophical thought. Hence the importance of the study of Vakyapadiya for the proper understanding of ancient scholarship and later insights. The present work fulfil the long-felt need for a complete word-index to the Vakyapadiya. The distinct feature of the present work is that, in addition to being the foremost index in Devanagiri, it is accompanied by the complete text of Vakyapadiya reproduced in Devanagari from the critical edition by Wilhelm Rau.
