Explaining the legal safeguards for women in the Constitution of India, it discusses at length the theories related to violence against women, motivations in violence, the various sections pertaining to offences against women in Indian Penal Code, and the horrendous assaults like rape and domestic violence.
It further describes in detail the international and national initiatives to combat violence against women. The landmark case studies of sexual assault in India and the response of civil society towards it also make part of the book.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR K.R. Rajani
Dr. (Mrs.) K.R. Rajani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. She was the recipient of Dr. Sarvepalli Radha Krishnan Philosophy Prize; Raja Ram Mohan Roy Birth Bicentenary Prize of the Andhra Pradesh Brahma Samaj and G.S.R. Krishnaiah Philosophy Prize. Dr. Rajani was nominated as "International Woman of the year for 2000/2001 by International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England. She has presented and published many papers. She is the author of two books titled "The Ideal of Human Unity: Sri Aurobindo" and "An Introduction to Sino-Japanese Philosophy". Dr. Rajani has visited University of Chicago, Tennessee State University and Vanderbilt University in the United States of America on a staff award in the year 2005. Her areas of interests are Sri Aurobindo, Philosophy of Religion, Philosophy of Education, Applied Ethics and Gender Studies.
