This is a ground-breaking book based on extensive research which challenges accepted ‘Norms’ and encourages fresh thought. In a book which is full of both insight and practical advice, Michael Williams defines the seven key competencies required for successful leadership in today’s environment. He has based his new book on over seven years’ work with over 2,500 senior managers in ten different companies in both Europe and USA. He establishes and explains the seven key competency dusters that matter most today: goal orientation, integrity, close engagement with others, ‘helicopter’ perception, resilient resourcefulness, personal ‘horcepower’ and resonant communications. He then demonstrates how, for ultimate success, these key competencies need to be linked closely to : Personal consistency, discipline and integrity, Intolerance of mediocrity, A concern to build mutual trust, Focused passion for the business, Recognition of the importance of emotional intelligence. He also shows how much talent lies untapped in many organizations and provides new and effective ideas for mobilizing all this potential.
