This study tries to explore the educational philosophies of some of India’s well-known thinkers. Concentrated upon the ideals of education that should be adopted in the country, it discusses at length the educational philosophies propounded by Swami Dayananda, Swami Vivekanand, Annie Besant, Sri Aurobindo, Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore. Analysing the impact of these philosophies on India’s educational system, it reinventing education from the philosophies as advocated by these thinkers. The book will be useful for researchers, policy-makers and development agencies working in the field of education.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.P. Chaube
Prof. S.P. Chaube (b. 1919) retired as a Professor of Education and Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Gorakhpur in 1979. After doing his M.A. from Banaras Hindu University and M.Ed. from Allahabad University, he earned his Ph.D. in Education from the University of Indiana, USA. Lucknow University conferred on him the degree of D.Litt. in 1965. also, Prof. chaube received the G.J. Watumull Memorial Award and the Banerji Resarch Prize in 1963 and 1965 respectively. Dr. chaube has more than 50 books to his credit in the fields of Education and Psychology, both in Hindi and English. Many of his books are taught as textbooks in several unviversities in the country.
