There are many terms and expressions unique to Mining that characterize the field and identify the user of such terms as a "mining person." The Student of mining is thus advised to become familiar with all the terms used in mining, particularly those that are peculiar to cither mines or minerals. Most of the mining terminology is introduced in the sections of this book where they are most applicable. Some General terms are best defined at the outset, these are outlined here.

M R Shankar b.1969, is B.A. (Hons.), M.A. from Utkal University and M.Phil from Jawaher Lal Nehru University. He did his L.L.B. from Delhi University and is a Senior Lawyer at Patna High Court and a visiting faculty to two Law institutes and has three Books concerning the Human Rights, Terrorism and Law to his Credit he is a regular contributor of articles in several resarches and journals. He is the recipient many prizes and awards, inculding more than three honorary degrees.
