Weaving together photographs and narrative, this book showcases the natural wealth, history and culture, and recent developments in and around Champaran region in Bihar.

Champaran’s natural bounty the Valmiki Tiger Reserve, Udaipur Sanctuary, Saraiya Mann lake, and other habitats captures the reader’s imagination in the first section. Focusing on the region’s rich heritage, the next section looks closely at the majestic stop’s and pillars at Kesariya, Lauriya Nandangarh, and Rampurva on the Buddhist trail; Valmiki Ashram and Chanki-Garh on the Ramayana trail; and on the Gandhian trail, the site of the first Satyagraha in India and the Gandhi Ashram at Bhitiharwa. It also vividly captures the Bettiah Raj dynasty, the red coral statues, and the Thar tribal culture. Recent developments in the region constitute the crux of the third section: from newly constructed network of roads to Valmiki Nagar barrage and the Gandak canal system to the upsurge of sugar industry.
