Mycotoxins, secondary metabolites of storage moulds, are important bioagents responsible far reaching health hazards of animals and man.  They need to be understood by scientist of different disciplines such as medicine, pharmacy, biochemistry, ecology, food science, veterinary and agriculture and in order to protect the health of man.  India being a tropical and subtropical country is likely to be citadel for mycotoxins.  In spite of this, much information is not available from India except some research publications.  Hence an effort is made to bring all relevant information in the form of book.  It contains two parts.  Part A deals with general aspects of mycotoxins which includes taxonomy of mycotoxins.  Each mycotoxins covers producing organisms, biosynthesis, isolation and detection techniques, natural incidence, toxicology, mechanism of action.  Generally interspersed with illustrations design to reinforce the key concepts containing contributions of some distinguish scientists.  In the end extensive literature is provided.  The present book serves as a reference for persons in the field like medicine, environmental biology, pharmacy, food science, biotechnology, veterinary and agriculture.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.M. Reddy

Dr. S.M. Reddy, Professor Emeritus (UGC), Department of Botany, Kakatiya University, is a recipient of Best Teacher Award by Govt. of A.P. He authored and edited about 15 books of university education. His research work spans over wide areas of microbiology right from microbial diversity to microbial biotechnology. He has guided 40 students for the Ph.D. degrees and published more than 400 original research papers in national and international journals. Successfully, he has completed nearly 20 research projects sponsored by different funding agencies. He is a fellow of many academic societies and an active member of several academic bodies.
