Child Labour: Issues, Challenges and Laws

Wordsworthian saying “ child is the father of man”, has a serious connotation that the future of a society/nation largely depends on present day children. But a dismal picture emerges before us when child labour which has been prevalent from vary old times, is still in perpetuation, that too in increasing dimensions and magnitude. Child labour is child abuse which deprives him of fundamental human rights, is a stigma on all modern hi-tech civilized societies. Poverty, growing population, widespread unemployment, illiteracy, social traditions, lack of consciousness, corruption and many other factors are responsible for child labour. Despite many statutory provisions we could not have a check on it. The present book addresses many crucial aspects of child labour, e.g. major causes, magnitude, impacts, life conditions, welfare measures, relevant laws and their performance appraisal etc. Definitely, the present endeavour will prove useful and informative to students, scholars, policy planners, administrators and social activists concerned with the problem and cause of child labour.
