It is a worlds renowned fact that Ranganathans Colon classification has been considered as a Classic. However it was not popularized in our own Indian libraries because the laymen and the students of LIS formed a opinion that it is difficult to understand. But in reality it is a most wonderful classification system which can adopt any new emerging discipline and quite suitable even to classify the information found in the Internet. Ranganathan combined his mathematical Knowlegge and divided the whole universe of subjects on the basis of five fundamental categories, which are similar to the five elements of Hindu mythology (Pancha Boothas-Agayum, Neer, Neruppu, Nilam, Vayu (Space, Water, Fire, Place, & Air). One cannot be oblivious of his acumen with which he modified the five elements as Personality, Matter, Energy, Time and Space. (PMEST). This book provides a simplified approach to the rules of Postulation Procedure of S.R. Ranganathan, and it will help the LIS students to have a better understanding of the great work, Colon Classification. The authors hope that this book may contribute a little, to revive the gradual entropy of Colon Classification from the Curriclum of LIS.
