Developmental assessment is very much useful and urgent for determining the child’s readiness and competence before starting formal schooling and education. This empirical study on Developmental Assessment of Preschool Children involved direct observation, individual testing and interviews of 240 preschool children of 8 (eight) age-groups from 2 (two) through 6 (six) years of age varying with an age interval of 6 months, selected from 6 (six) SES and socio-cultural groups (i.e., Urban middle, urban lower, rural middle, rural lower SC and ST). The study was undertaken to build up a normative database in the regional (Orissa, India) context on children’s developmental milestones i.e., what a child does at what age. A Normal Psychological Developmental Profile (NPDP) has been developed on the basis of the obtained findings of the study for reference of the parents, teachers, researchers and curriculum framers and planners of preschool education. The author’s labour will be rewarded if they get benefited out of this work.
