Drought: Assessment, Monitoring, Management and Resources Conservation

Drought events are reported to have occurred for more than 200 years and even from the paleoclimatic ages. People have learned to live with the event. The purpose of this book is to disseminate methods that are being available for total understanding of drought. The severe drought events, their probable impacts on the environment and various drought indices being used in describing these events (climate, hydrology, agriculture and socioeconomic) are given in detail. Orbital satellite images in monitoring and assessment, spatial data information analysis using Geographic Information System (GIS), management aspects that are being practiced in select countries, vulnerability group/area identification in decision making process and resources conservation and development aspects are highlighted in the book with elaborate examples.
