Banking today has become more complex with different products and services which seems from reliance on automation and technological change which has shaped it from a manual-intensive industry into one highly automated and technology dependent. The process of doing banking functions deploying Information Technology is a definition of ‘Electronic Banking’. The scope and reach of electronic banking, e.g., E-Banking has undergone a complete revolution. This now includes the whole gamut of automation that is seen not only in the bank branches/offices, but also a plethora of delivery channels are made available. The following ‘Electronic Banking’ mechanisms that exist or are being designed are–Automated Teller Machines (ATM); Direct Deposits; Pay-by-Phone; PC Banking or Home Banking; Credit Cards; Point-of-Sale Transfers/Debit Cards; Stored Value Cards or Smart Cars; Electronic Data Interchange (EDI); Electronic or Digital Cash; Direct Credits; Electronic Fund Transfers; and Real Time, Gross Settlement System.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.B. Verma
Dr. S.B. Verma got through Master degree in Commerce and Economics as well as Bachelor degree in Law from Bihar University, Muzaffarpur. He was awarded Ph.D. degree from Patna University, Patna and also D.Litt degree from Allahabad Univesity, Allahabad. He had been Reader at Nagaland Central University, Kohima, and Lecturer at HNB University, Garhwal. He is faculty member of Commerce, SNS College, Muzaffarpur, Bihar University, Muzaffarpur; Guest faculty at many universities and a National Fellow. He is an Academic Counselor for many educational institutions. Dr. Verma is a member of All India Commerce Association, and All India Accounting Association. He was granted a major project of UGC. He has extensively published research papers in leading academic journals and contributed a number of papers in National and International Seminar-cum-Conferences. He is a renowned author and editor of more than three dozen outstanding research books. He has guided many Ph.D. students. Dr. Verma is a distinguished personality in commerce and management. He has throughout a meritorious career.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.K. Gupta
Dr. S.K. Gupta (b. 1945) passed M.Sc. (Physics) 1967, M.Ed. in 1971 and obtained Ph.D. Degree in Education in 1974 – all from the University of Kurukshetra. A senior University teacher having nearly two decades of professional standing, he is on the Panel of Experts for Reviewing books for the reputed Journals. A prolific writer, he has five well acclaimed scholarly books to his credit including Guidance an Counselling in Indian Education (1985), Exploring Mental Abilities for Science Talent (1990). Currently Dr. gupta is a Reader in Education at the North Eastern Hill University, Nagaland Campus, Kohima.
