Today, Tourism has become as an important instrument for valuable foreign exchange earnings including poverty alleviation, regional development, environmental generation, advancement of women and many more. Being the second largest net foreign exchange earner tourism industry is contributing a lot in the national economy. Each rupee spent by tourist in country, changes hands thirteen times and every hotel room generates employment to three persons and indirectly to nine persons. Recognizing the great potential of tourism industry India has drawn up plans to achieve 10 percent to 12 percent growth rate in this sector against the present overall growth rate of six percent. Tourism industry in India offers immense investment opportunities in sectors like accommodation, communication links, roads, airport facilities local transportation and in those areas where no other economic activity is feasible or poised. Tourism industry can also poise a threat to the ecology and environment if not developed on the principles and practices of sustainability. In view of this, the present study presents a comprehensive view and an analytical understanding to form a strategy for tourism promotion through eco-tourism management. This book will help to develop academic interest in environmental and conservation of wildlife while developing the strategies for mass tourism planning.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR A.K. Raina

Dr. A.K. Raina born in Srinagar, J & K, in 1963, had his Master’s degree in commerce and tourism. Got his Ph.D. in commerce from Agra University. He taught at G.M. College, Srinagar and presently working as a Senior Lecturer at Dayanand (PG) College, Ajmer (Rajasthan). He did his Post Doctoral Fellowship at Florida International University, Miami, U.S.A. in Hospitality Management. Dr. Raina took Major Research Project sponsored by the UGC, New Delhi on Financial Feasibility of Tourism. Dr. Raina received recognition for his work on tourism from Tourism Planning Division Tabago House of Assembly, West Indies, in 1992, Paryatan Visheshgay Puraskar by the Department of Tourism, Art and Culture, Government of Rajasthan, in 1996, Fellowship on Heritage Tourism of Rajasthan in 1999, letter of appreciation form Kenya High Commission, New Delhi in 1999 and 2001 for research and training the Kenyan students. Dr. Raina has attended number of national and international journals. Besides dr. Raina’s books on Tourism Industry in Kashmir and Dawatnama has been highly appreciated in the academic circles. Presently dr. Raina is working on Eco-Tourism, for the “Save the Earth Planet”.
