Ecotourism is considered the fastest growing market in the tourism industry, according to the World Tourism Organisation with an annual growth rate of 5 per cent worldwide and representing 6 per cent of the world gross domestic product, 11.4 percent of all consumer spending-not a market to be taken lightly. Eco-tourism focuses on local cultures, wilderness adventures, volunteering, personal growth and learning new ways to live on our vulnerable planet. Responsible ecotourism includes programmes that minimize the adverse effects of traditional tourism on the natural environment, and enhance the cultural integrity of local people. This book analyses, the nature of tourism and ecotourism and also details ecotourism certification and accreditation programmes around the globe. It is bothersome is that the book only gathers the reflections of certification proponents.
