This book attempts to give a historical account of how the idea of nationhood flourished in Manipur within a limited theoretical framework. Taking a close look at the geological formation and geographical position of Manipur, it provides a detailed account of pre-historic Manipur and its early peoples.
Also, it describes in detail the life and rule of important kings in proto-historical period, the establishment of Ningthouja dynasty, the evolution of State from 33 A.D. to 1467 A.D., and the territorial expansion and emergence of nationhood from 1467 A.D. to 1748 A.D.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Naorem Joykumar Singh
Prof. Naorem Joykumar Singh (b. 1950) Prof. & Head, Dept. of History, Manipur University, Imphal is a seasoned teacher and a noted scholar. A prolific writer, he has authored two books namely –Social Movement in Manipur, and Colonialism to Demography: History of Manipur from 1819 to 1972. he has published many articles in reputed national and international journals. He is General Secretary of Manipur Historical Society, and Member of north East History Association. Currently, Pro. Singh is Director, Centre for Manipur Study and dean, school of Social Sciences, Manipur University, Imphal.
