Even as certain sectors of its economy are modernizing and successfully competing in the global market, India is challenged by poverty, energy scarcity, and environmental degradation. Japan, on the other hand, has incorporated social sensitivity into its business and technological competence, thus effectively addressing concerns such as poverty alleviation and social justice. This interface of energy, environment, and poverty, if approached through visionary policies, provides an ideal platform for meaningful collaborations between Japanese and Indian organizations. TERI-Japan’s inaugural symposium marked an initiative towards fostering closer alliances between institutions in Japan and India. This document contains the symposium’s deliberations, emerging from the minds and hearts of very distinguished leaders from both nations. It hopes to catalyse activities and partnerships to add impetus to global efforts towards realizing sustainable development.
