The Himalaya is a mountain region of majestic grandeur great charm and high geographical significance. As one of the youngest mountain regions of the world, it shares some common problems of environment and development. The Himalayas is rich in many natural resources. Much stress is laid on the exploitation of natural resources such as forest but surprisingly stress is not laid on their conservation. Water is a prime natural resource a basic human need for all forms of life and a precious national asset. Water is essential for human existence and also for the propagation of wildlife and fisheries. It is a scarce resource.
