Sociology, the scientific study of society deals with group behaviour, the relationship among men, and the factors entering into and ensuing from these relationships. Wherever an individual is in communication with others, wherever direct or indirect contacts occur, such an individual is an interacting member of the social order. The elements, patterns and consequences of behaviour antecedents or subsequent to this interaction among individuals and between groups is the chief subject matter of sociology.
The aim of this text is to provide the fundamentals of sociology for the student who wishes to pursue advance work in the field and to give the general reader a familiarity with sociology that any liberally educated person should have. The book will act as a body of knowledge as well as the major conceptual tool of sociological analysis.
