This book is an edited volume containing the proceedings of an UGC sponsored National Seminar on "Gender Discrimination and Environment in the Context of Globalisation" held in November 2008 under the auspices of Bhagalpur National College of TM Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur.

The papers included in this volume, have made multidisciplinary contributions to the more burning themes relating to gender discrimination and environment, women empowerment, women education, women enterprises in the wake of globalisation with new evidences, new perspectives and new dimensions. The papers of this volume provide us deep insight into the problem of gender discrimination and environment in India during globalisation period and stress that women empowerment is much more than a matter of debate, it is an object of action. The findings of these papers put emphasis on the fact that the government machinery alone is incapable of solving the problem, not even mitigating it to any satisfactory extent and complete social overhaul of the outlook seems to be the only remedy to the mixed and vexed problem of gender discrimination and environment.

It is hoped that this volume shall not only be just an addition of much grown literature on gender discrimination, rather a beneficial addition for the students, researchers and policy-makers alike. This volume shall not only be just an addition of much grown literature on gender discrimination, rather a beneficial addition for the students, researchers and policy-makers alike.
