The Indian English novel has come a long way from its infancy in the 1860s to the present day. From being a mere imitation of the western style of writing it has emerged today as a full-fledged form of expression having its own distinct identity and flavour. Endowed with the richness and variety of the Indian soil and weather, the Indian English novel has transcended the barriers of language to represent the complex national consciousness in its essence. The present book is an attempt to draw attention to the priceless treasure trove of our national heritage. It is an assertion of the nation’s voice through the once-colonised and marginalised characters of Dalits, peasants, women and hybridized individuals of the present world. It comprises twenty research papers and an interview with an enterprising and well-established scholar.
