Handbook of Environmental Studies, Vol 1: Water and Wastewater Analysis is a book for laboratory analysts, undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, and others involved in the analysis of water and wastewater. Methodological discussions on each experiment is preceded by a synoptic review of national and international standards and environmental significance. ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.K. Maiti

Dr. Subodh Kumar Maiti (b. 25-4-1960) is Assistant Professor in the Centre of Maining Environment, Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, Jharkand. He did his B.Sc. (Hons.) and MSc. In botany with specialization in microbiology from Calcutta University in 1981. He later completed M.Tech. in Env. Sc. And Engg. From IIT, Mumbai in 1986 and worked as Senior Environmental Engineer in Kirloskar Consultancy Division, Pune till 1987. In 1988 he joined as Lecturer in ISM, Dhanbad and did Ph.D. in Env. Sc. And Engg. In 1995. He underwent three months training in EIA and Auditing at Univ. of Bradford and Manchester, UK in 1996. He taught Env. Ecology and Ecotoxicology, Env. Microbiology, Biological Wastewater Treatment, Land Reclamation and EIA and B.Tech., M.Sc. (Tech.) and M.Tech. levels and guided several research students. Dr. Maiti has published over 35 research papers in national and International journals covering biological wastewater treatment, biological reclamation and environmental management in mining areas. He has completed several R&D projects related to biological reclamation, development of green belt in mining areas and biological treatment of phenolic wastewaters, hospital wastewaters and domestic sewage. He is a lifemember of IAEM, NEERI, IASWC, Dehradun, Mycorrhiza News (TERI) and MGMI, Kolkata.
