The relation between health and poverty is double edged with ill health leading to poverty and poverty breeding ill health. There is an urgent need to understand the linkages between poor health, poverty and development so as to make any dent in this vicious cycle which not only impinges on the health but also has major bearing on socio-economic and political well being of nations. The need of the hour is to identify the inequalities in development and involve all the development sectors in the efforts towards eradication of poverty and in health development. This book is an edited volume of the selected papers presented at the 7th conference of Indian Association of Social Sciences and Health (IASSH) that was organized by the Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, Faculty of Social Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, during March, 5-7, 2010. This conference was an attempt to bring intellectuals from all walks of life to make fruitful deliberations on the issues. The book has 21 chapters under 4 sections. The book would be of immense use to the researchers, health activists, planners, programme mangers and policy makers.
